Liverpool F.C. legend Luis Garcia hopes his former teammate Xabi Alonso's Chelsea will finish second in the Premier League this season. Garcia, who is now the chief executive of Johor Darul Ta'zim, will be reunited with Alonso when Chelsea visit his team in Malaysia for a pre-season friendly. The two Spaniards go way back to 2004, when they both signed for Rafael Benitez's Liverpool on the same day. They started together in Liverpool's dramatic Champions League final win over AC Milan at the end of that season and went on to play together for Spain. Garcia says they remain 'really good friends' and have stayed in touch, but insists Alonso is facing a difficult final overseas friendly. Chelsea's tour ends in Johor, and Garcia admits, 'Chelsea is the biggest test we will face this season.' He adds, 'I'll be so happy to welcome them in Johor. The stadium is going to be packed.' Garcia's team, Johor Darul Ta'zim, are currently on a world record-equalling 108-game unbeaten run, which could soon be extended when the Malaysian season restarts in August. They have not lost a domestic match since 2021 and are currently 25 points behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League. They have scored 63 goals and conceded 53 this season, with a goal difference of +10. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 5th in Premier League, 60 pts, 17W-9D-12L from 38 games, recent form DLDLW. Garcia hopes his team will break one of the most incredible records in football, their domestic unbeaten run, in the first game of the season. He says, 'We don't have a limit, and that motto of 'the sky is never the limit' is something that we repeat quite often in the dressing room.'
