Former Liverpool F.C. Winger Jordan Ibe has avoided a prison sentence after assaulting his former partner. The 30-year-old was sentenced to a 12-month community order at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Ibe, of Chislehurst in south-east London, pleaded guilty in July to assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Amie Mayson. The incident occurred outside her home in Lambeth, south London, on 14 December. The former England under-21 international had initially denied the charge in March but changed his plea. He represented himself at the hearing, wearing a black coat and trousers.
The court heard that the argument began when Mayson confronted Ibe about money she said he owed her. Prosecutor Aya Alshekhili presented the case, detailing how Ibe pulled a braid from Mayson's hair. He then grabbed her arm hard and seized her hair. Ibe was carrying a bag containing drinks, snacks, and flowers at the time. During the confrontation, Mayson called Ibe a 'druggy', to which he replied, 'No, I’m going to be a prick'.
A victim impact statement was read to the court by Mayson. She said the assault left her confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth 'on the floor'. Mayson stated the event had a significant physical and mental impact on her. Despite feelings of fear, she expressed compassion for Ibe, saying forgiveness had been part of her healing journey. The pair had been in an on-and-off relationship since late 2024.
Magistrate Brij Kalia handed down the sentence. Ibe was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity. He was also fined £764, which includes a £114 victim surcharge and £650 in court costs. Addressing the court, Ibe said, "I made a serious mistake." He added, "I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful. I’ve had to look at myself in the mirror."
Jordan Ibe made 58 appearances for Liverpool before moving on. His career included spells at Derby County, Birmingham City, and AFC Bournemouth. After leaving English football, he played for Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League until June 2025. He had spent two years in non-league football before joining the Bulgarian side in November of that year.
