Liverpool have issued a firm hands-off warning to Arsenal over the future of teenage winger Rio Ngumoha. The club have no plans to entertain any offers for the 18-year-old, who is considered a key part of their long-term project.
Ngumoha joined Liverpool from Chelsea in 2024 and signed a three-year professional contract a year ago, with two years still remaining on that deal. He has already made 35 senior appearances for the Reds, a number that continues to grow under manager Andoni Iraola. This season, he has been deployed in four matches, including a start in the Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid and Tuesday's Carabao Cup third-round win against Tottenham.
Iraola's faith in youth
Iraola continues to give Ngumoha minutes, using him on both the left and other flanks in a competitive attacking unit that also features players like Cody Gakpo. The young forward scored his first Liverpool goal in the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in August. Ngumoha himself has spoken about the thrill of breaking into the first-team setup.
"It was crazy," Ngumoha said. "In the morning when I knew when the gaffer put out the team, I saw my name there."
He also reflected on his European debut, adding: "A first start in the Champions League, especially at Anfield and against a good side."
Firm stance on future
Despite interest from Arsenal, which is understood to be genuine, and previous links to Bayern Munich over the summer, Liverpool's position is clear. The player is believed to be happy at the club and enjoying his development. This stance reinforces the club's commitment to integrating young talent as they compete across multiple fronts this season.
Liverpool currently sit eighth in the Premier League with six points from four games, following a 3-1 win over Tottenham last weekend. With the title race already taking shape and the club six points behind leaders Arsenal, securing the futures of emerging talents like Ngumoha is seen as vital. Fans can track the team's progress in the standings throughout the campaign.
