Jamie Carragher says Ronald Araujo has become a cult hero at Liverpool after his summer loan move from Barcelona. The defender has impressed in multiple roles, helping the team to an unbeaten run of five matches.
Carragher made the comments following Liverpool's 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Tottenham last week, a result that extended their positive form. The former Reds captain highlighted how the Uruguayan has solved a problem position.
"Liverpool have had an issue at right-back," Carragher said. "That was the point in bringing him in."
Araujo's versatility has been key under manager Andoni Iraola, with the player taking Jeremie Frimpong's place as the first-choice right-back. His solid performances have contributed to a defensive record of just four goals conceded in the Premier League so far this season.
Liverpool currently sit eighth in the table with six points from four games.
While Araujo settles, the club is also working to secure the future of another young talent. Talks are ongoing with teenage forward Rio Ngumoha over a new contract. The club wants to keep the player, who has been decisive whenever he has played, amid reported interest from Arsenal.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the situation. "At the moment, Liverpool want to keep the boy and they are discussing a new contract with Rio," he said.
