Former Liverpool F.C. Winger Jordon Ibe has been sentenced for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The 30-year-old received a 12-month community order this week after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Croydon Magistrates' Court heard that Ibe pulled a braid from Amie Mayson's head during an argument outside her Lambeth home on December 14. The assault left her with a bald patch. Ibe, who represented himself, wore a black coat and trousers during the hearing presided over by Magistrate Brij Kalia.
The confrontation began when Mayson demanded repayment of money she said Ibe owed her. Ibe responded by saying, "No, I'm going to be a pr*ck." He had arrived with a bag containing drinks, snacks, and flowers.
Mayson threw muffins on the floor and called Ibe a 'druggy.' Ibe then grabbed her by her hair, pulling out the braid. Prosecutor Ms Alshekhili presented the case to the court, where a victim impact statement from Mayson was read aloud.
Magistrate Kalia sentenced Ibe to a 12-month community order with specific requirements. He must complete 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity. Ibe was also fined £764, which includes a £114 victim surcharge and £650 in court costs.
The former winger had initially denied the charge in March but changed his plea to guilty in July. During sentencing, Ibe told the court, "I made a serious mistake." He added, "I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful. I've had to look at myself in the mirror."
Ibe made 58 appearances for Liverpool between 2013 and 2016 after coming through the club's academy system. He also had spells at Derby County, Birmingham City, and AFC Bournemouth in England. The winger represented England at under-21 level during his career.
More recently, Ibe played non-league football before joining Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Sofia in 2025. His professional career has been in decline since leaving Bournemouth in 2020. The assault case represents another setback for the former Premier League player.
