Liverpool F.C. Is reportedly readying a bid for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola as they look to bolster their attacking options following the departure of long-time talisman Mohamed Salah. However, teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha is already making waves at Anfield, and his impressive performance in the 1-0 preseason victory over Wrexham on Wednesday has caught the eye of new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Ngumoha played on the right after being introduced for the second half, despite usually favouring the left-hand side. His heavily deflected strike in the 75th minute was not particularly easy on the eye but it was another example of the 17-year-old proving decisive for Liverpool at the key moment.
Why it matters for Liverpool F.C.
Liverpool's paucity of defensive options made clear in Iraola's first game, and Ngumoha's performance has hinted that he may be viewed as a viable option to fill the Salah-shaped void. "Any position -- right wing, left wing -- I just try my best especially on the ball just to beat my man as best as I can," Ngumoha said.
Liverpool's previous boss Arne Slot managed Ngumoha's minutes carefully last season, and Iraola -- who has a reputation for developing young talent -- will need to ensure that Ngumoha has the best chance of prolonged success at the elite level. With the Premier League season just around the corner, Ngumoha will be looking to make a bigger impact for the Reds.
Liverpool F.C. Currently sits 5th in the Premier League table, with 60 points from 38 games, and a goal difference of +10. They are 25 points behind leaders Arsenal, and will be looking to make a push for the title in the coming season.
