Liverpool are reported to be interested in signing Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck. The 26-year-old German international is also being monitored by Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona.

Schlotterbeck signed a contract extension in April 2026, tying him to Dortmund until June 2031. His deal is understood to include a release clause estimated between €50 million and €60 million, which could be activated by certain clubs next summer. Borussia Dortmund reportedly value the player at more than €70 million outside of any clause conditions.

No official offers have been made and negotiations have not begun, meaning a transfer is not imminent. The interest could become competitive if Dortmund decide to entertain offers next summer.

Schlotterbeck's composure in possession, distribution from deep and strength in one-on-one situations are seen as attributes that could benefit Liverpool's defence. The club's current league position highlights a need for reinforcement. Liverpool sit ninth in the Premier League with nine points from six games, having conceded seven goals. Their last outing was a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City.

The situation remains one to watch ahead of the next transfer window. Liverpool's immediate focus is on their next Premier League fixture, a trip to face fourth-placed Brentford.
