Liverpool F.C. Must finalise their UEFA squad registration by an 11pm deadline on Wednesday, September 2. The Reds are one of nine Premier League clubs competing in European competition this season who face this secondary deadline, 48 hours after the summer transfer window closed.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Manchester United, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Sunderland, and Brighton & Hove Albion are the other clubs involved. The registration rules apply specifically to sides in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. Brighton's participation in the Conference League brings them under UEFA's jurisdiction.
Each club can register a maximum of 25 players for their European campaign. This list must include at least two goalkeepers. A minimum of eight players must qualify as 'locally trained'. UEFA defines this category precisely. A 'club-trained' player is one registered with the club for three entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21. An 'association-trained' player meets the same time requirement but at one or multiple clubs within the same national association.
Of the eight locally trained players required, at most four can be association-trained. This means a minimum of four must be club-trained, developed within a club's own academy system. These regulations are designed to promote youth development and maintain a connection between clubs and their communities.
The squad is also managing several absences. Currently sidelined players include Stefan Bajcetic, Bradley Barcola, Conor Bradley, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, and Joe Gomez.
Aston Villa's situation is particularly notable. The club was fined £19 million in 2025 for a squad cost rule breach. As a result, they cannot register new players unless their list balance is positive. Their summer business suggests they have met this requirement. Villa spent around £250 million on signings but recouped over £300 million in sales. Their deadline-day additions were Ibrahim Mbaye and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
Manchester City must formally register recent signings Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye. Crystal Palace completed deals for Dario Osorio from Midtjylland and Quinten Timber from Marseille, alongside Ben Chilwell and Honest Ahanor. Sunderland secured Malick Fofana from Lyon after a deadline-day saga, plus Juan Riquelme Angulo and Kevin Danso from Tottenham Hotspur.
Once submitted, the 25-man squad is locked in for the group stages of UEFA competitions. Clubs can make changes only during the next designated registration period, which aligns with the January transfer window. This makes the current decisions critical for the autumn European schedule. The final registration must be completed by 11pm on Wednesday.
